چکیده

Various species of common box (Buxus) are cultivated in the Arboretum of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Mlyňany under the same soil and climatic conditions; consequently, the examination of alkaloids produced by those plants is of chemotaxonomical importance. From this locality we investigated so far alkaloids from Buxus sempervirens L.[l,2], B. microphylla SIEB, et ZUCC. var. sinica REHD. et WILS. [3], B. sempervirens var. bullata KIRCHN. [4], B. sempervir ens var. argentea HORT, ex STEUD. [5], and B. sempervirens var. angustifolia WEST. Alkaloids present in the last species were found also in other plants of the genus Buxaceae with the difference that the main alkaloid of Buxus sempervirens var. angustifolia was cyclobuxamine-H. In addition to alkaloids the presence of sterols and triterpenes in Buxus sempervirens L. was investigated [6]; these substances could be intermediates in the biosynthesis of alkaloids.

New triterpenoidal alkaloids from Buxus sempervirens.

Phytochemical studies on the ethanolic extract of the roots of Buxus sempervirens of Turkish origin have resulted in the isolation of two new triterpenoidal alkaloids, (+)-16a, 31-diacetylbuxadine (1), (-)-Nb-demethylcyclomikuranine (2) along with three known natural products, (-)-cyclomikuranine (3), (-)-cyclobuxophylline-K (4) and (+)-buxaquamarine (5) isolated for the first time from this sp...

Cytotoxicity of Triterpenoid Alkaloids from Buxus microphylla against Human Tumor Cell Lines.

Three new triterpenoid alkaloids, namely buxmicrophyllines P-R (1-3), were isolated from the twigs and leaves of Buxus microphylla. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of NMR and MS spectroscopic analyses. Structurally, compounds 1-3 belong to the 9,10-cycloartane type alkaloids. In addition, compound 3 exhibited moderate cytotoxic activities in vitro against HL-60, SMMC-7221, A-549, ...

Antiprotozoal activity of Buxus sempervirens and activity-guided isolation of O-tigloylcyclovirobuxeine-B as the main constituent active against Plasmodium falciparum.

Buxus sempervirens L. (European Box, Buxaceae) has been used in ethnomedicine to treat malaria. In the course of our screening of plant extracts for antiprotozoal activity, a CH2Cl2 extract from leaves of B. sempervirens showed selective in vitro activity against Plasmodium falciparum (IC50 = 2.79 vs. 20.2 µg/mL for cytotoxicity against L6 rat cells). Separation of the extract by acid/base extr...
